WHO WE ARE

ISLA transforms handbags into objects of desire. Each piece begins with a relentless search for the finest, most refined raw materials — straw, raffia, mother-of-pearl, exceptional leathers — shaped into exclusive forms that move effortlessly from day to evening, season after season. This is luxury you don't just carry. You feel it.

It all began in 2008, when Brazilian designer Silvia Monteiro turned a personal need into a brand. Unable to find a bag that matched her vision — one that broke away from what the market had to offer — she began crafting a small, handmade collection of her own. The response was immediate, and so was the realization: this had to become something more.

That first evening collection gave ISLA its name and its early devotion, but the house has since grown into a complete universe of pieces — from iconic evening bags to the natural, raffia-woven styles that have become one of its most recognizable signatures internationally, to the everyday designs that carry the same obsession with detail into daily life. Mother-of-pearl marquetry remains one of the brand's most expressive signatures: a material that has accompanied ISLA since its earliest days, prized for the way it captures light and reveals texture in every piece it touches.

In 2020, ISLA deepened this commitment to craft and conscience, launching a fully artisanal, sustainable line made from reclaimed textile remnants and traditional handweaving techniques — a tangible commitment to sustainability and to the social inclusion of the local women artisans behind it.
Today, ISLA's pieces are found in flagship boutiques, in Brazil's most prestigious multi-brand retailers, and on leading luxury marketplaces around the world. But the proposition remains the same one Silvia set out with nearly two decades ago: to turn handbags into true jewels.
